Do I Need Therapy?

First let me ask you a question - how long have you felt it?

That quiet discomfort. That sense that something’s not quite right. That you're not where you want to be, not who you want to be.

But still, nothing changes.

You keep going. Same habits. Same thoughts. Same life. Hoping motivation will show up like a bus and take you somewhere better.

Here’s the truth: that moment of motivation is not a bus stop. It’s a window. And it closes.

We all get them—those rare moments when everything lines up just enough:

A flicker of awareness

A hint of desire

A wave of discomfort

A little bit of time

A flicker of energy

But if you don’t act then, the moment passes.

And the next time it all aligns? That might not be for a long time.

Why we stay stuck

Because staying the same is easier.

It’s familiar. It’s predictable.

It might even feel safe, even if it's slowly draining the life out of you.

That’s how people get stuck for years—even decades.

Not because they don’t care.

Not because they’re not capable.

But because they’re waiting for a “better” time.

But change doesn’t come from perfect timing.

Change is a process. It looks something like this:

Precontemplation: “This is just how it is. I don’t think I can change.”

Contemplation: “I know I am avoiding things… maybe I should talk to someone.”

Preparation: “Okay. I’m ready to reach out.”

Action: “I’ve booked a session. I'm doing it.”

Maintenance: “This is starting to feel better. I’m changing.”

Termination: “This is who I am now. I’ve moved through it.”

Relapse: “I have fallen back into the old familiar habits. But I know what to do now.”

We all move through these at different speeds. And yes—you might go back and forth. That’s completely normal.

But the longer you sit in contemplation—knowing something needs to shift, but not acting—the heavier it starts to feel.

That’s where people lose years.

So what now?

If you’re hearing the whisper—“It’s time”—

Don’t wait for life to make space.

Make the space yourself.

You don’t have to sign up for weekly therapy forever.

For some people, that doesn’t even make sense.

Maybe a rapid approach works better for you. A single session. Or 3 intensive sessions spaced over 6 months.

For others, it’s hitting a milestone—like turning 50—and finally saying, “I am ready to do whatever it takes so that I can show up in the future feeling authentic and free.”

Whatever path you choose, here’s what I believe:

Therapy isn’t meant to be forever.

It’s for a reason, a purpose, to get you moving...To help you cross the bridge between stuck and forward.

Once you're there, therapy can evolve into coaching or mentoring—or you go it alone.

The key is getting there.

If this speaks to you—don’t overthink it.

Take one step.

Because the longer you wait, the more likely you’ll end up still waiting a year from now.

And honestly? You deserve more than that.
